Safe things you can check yourself

Check the thermostat: right mode (Heat or Cool), set a few degrees past room temperature, and fresh batteries if it uses them.
Make sure the unit has power: its on/off switch (often looks like a light switch near the unit) is ON and the breaker in the electrical panel is not tripped.
Look at the pressure gauge on the boiler. If it reads much lower than usual or near zero, or water is leaking, call a technician.
Outside, make sure the intake and exhaust pipes or vent cap are not blocked by snow, ice, leaves or a nest.
Check that the boiler gas valve is open (handle in line with the pipe).
Try one reset: turn the power off for 30 seconds, then back on. If the code comes back, stop resetting and call a technician.

Read-only menu on the boiler controller with live readings used while diagnosing. Item numbers named in the guide: 03 supply thermistor, 04 return thermistor, 06 exhaust thermistor, 08 inlet water thermistor, 10 heat exchanger thermistor, 13 water flow control valve position (0 = mid, 1 = open), 15 three-way valve position (0 = mid, 1 = DHW, 2 = CH), 30 indirect tank thermistor, 31 outdoor sensor. A reading of -40°F means the sensor is unplugged or has a bad connection. The guide cites menu 7 both for the DHW outgoing temperature and for recirculation flow, so check the installation manual or tech sheet for the exact item list.
