Homeowner? What Carrier code 1 means for you

Usually minor Your air conditioner is reporting: Normal operation - 1 flash. This code is usually informational or minor. The safe checks below often clear it; call us if it keeps showing up.

Safe things you can check yourself

  • Check the thermostat: right mode (Heat or Cool), set a few degrees past room temperature, and fresh batteries if it uses them.
  • Check both breakers and the outdoor disconnect box beside the outdoor unit; all should be ON.
  • Look at the air filter. If it is grey and clogged, replace it; a blocked filter causes many shutdowns.
  • Keep about 2 feet around the outdoor unit clear of leaves, grass and debris.
  • If you see ice on the pipes or the indoor coil, turn the system off and run only the fan for a few hours, then call a technician.
  • Try one reset: turn the power off for 30 seconds, then back on. If the code comes back, stop resetting and call a technician.

What does Carrier error code 1 mean?

The amber STATUS LED gives one flash and a pause, repeating. This is a normal running indication, not a fault: on the 25VNA8/24VNA9 with an Infinity control it means variable capacity operation, and with a 2-stage thermostat it means low capacity. On the 24ANB/25HNB it means low stage cooling or heating, and on the single-stage communicating heat pump it means normal cooling or heating.

Applies to: Carrier Infinity 25VNA8/24VNA9 variable speed, 24ANB/25HNB two-stage and single-stage communicating outdoor units

Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.
