Allied Furnace: General vent termination requirements
General vent termination requirements on a Allied furnace: The furnace is Category IV in both non-direct and direct vent. Termination location is limited by local codes. Without local codes, use NFPA 54 (US) or CSA B149 (Canada).
Applies to: All vent terminations
How to fix general vent termination requirements: step by step
- Place the termination according to figure 28 (non-direct) or figure 29 (direct).
- Keep the termination clear of obstructions and at least 12 in. above average snow accumulation.
- Do not place the exhaust outlet within 6 ft (1.8 m) of a condensing unit.
- Protect building materials from exhaust condensate.
- Insulate exhaust pipe with 1/2 in. (13 mm) Armaflex or equivalent if winter design temperature is below 32 F (0 C) and the pipe runs through unconditioned space.
- In areas below 20 F (6.7 C), use 3/4 in. (19 mm) insulation.
- Do not use screens or perforated metal in exhaust terminations.
