Allied Furnace: Joint cementing procedure for plastic vent pipe
Joint cementing procedure for plastic vent pipe on a Allied furnace: Cement joints per ASTM D2855. Time matters, so work fast once primer goes on.
Applies to: PVC, CPVC and ABS vent joints
How to fix joint cementing procedure for plastic vent pipe: step by step
- Measure and cut the vent pipe to length.
- Deburr and chamfer the pipe end so no ridges remove cement from the socket.
- Clean and dry the surfaces to be joined.
- Test fit and mark the fitting depth on the outside of the pipe.
- Apply a liberal coat of PVC primer (for ABS use a clean dry cloth) to the socket and pipe end to the marked depth. Do not let primer dry before cementing.
- Apply solvent cement lightly and evenly inside the socket, then a second coat to the pipe end.
- While both surfaces are wet, push the pipe fully into the socket within 20 seconds. Give PVC a 1/4 turn while inserting, but do not turn ABS or cellular core pipe.
- Wipe excess cement at the socket. A good joint shows a bead all the way around.
- Handle joints carefully until fully set.
