Applies to: All vent terminations

How to fix general vent termination requirements: step by step

  1. Place the termination according to figure 28 (non-direct) or figure 29 (direct).
  2. Keep the termination clear of obstructions and at least 12 in. above average snow accumulation.
  3. Do not place the exhaust outlet within 6 ft (1.8 m) of a condensing unit.
  4. Protect building materials from exhaust condensate.
  5. Insulate exhaust pipe with 1/2 in. (13 mm) Armaflex or equivalent if winter design temperature is below 32 F (0 C) and the pipe runs through unconditioned space.
  6. In areas below 20 F (6.7 C), use 3/4 in. (19 mm) insulation.
  7. Do not use screens or perforated metal in exhaust terminations.
Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.
