Goodman Furnace: Upflow vertical – drain exiting left side
Upflow vertical - drain exiting left side on a Goodman furnace: Routing the condensate drain out the left side of an upflow furnace uses a hose and fitting kit. The hose cut point depends on the cabinet width, so measure and confirm before cutting.
Applies to: Upflow vertical, left side drain
Common causes of upflow vertical - drain exiting left side
- Furnace installed with the drain on the left side
- Hose cut at the wrong line for the cabinet width
- Clamp loose or wrong size, leaking
- Fitting installed backwards, barb outside
How to fix upflow vertical - drain exiting left side: step by step
- Install the 45 degree pipe/hose coupling through the left side hole, barb end inside. Secure with two #8 self-tapping screws.
- Cut hose #3 at line B for a 17.5 in cabinet, at line C for a 21 in cabinet, or do not cut for a D width cabinet. Confirm the cabinet width first.
- Connect the large end of hose #3 to the trap outlet with a 1.25 in clamp.
- Connect the small end of hose #3 to the 45 degree elbow with a 1 in clamp.
- Connect the field drain to the furnace trap outlet per the field drain section.
- Pour water through and check for leaks at the clamps.
