Goodman Furnace: Integrated ignition control board checks
Integrated ignition control board checks on a Goodman furnace: The control is not field repairable and must be replaced as a whole. Ground and polarity must be correct. The trial for ignition is 4 seconds. The control shows diagnostic codes on a dual 7-segment LED. When powered and in standby it shows ON.
Applies to: Integrated ignition control board
Common causes of integrated ignition control board checks
- Furnace not earth grounded
- Reversed hot and neutral
- High resistance in neutral
- Loose 5-pin connector
- No call for high stage heat
- Blown fuse
How to fix integrated ignition control board checks: step by step
- Confirm ground: with power off, resistance from neutral (white) to the burner nearest the flame sensor is under 2 ohms.
- Check for 120V line 1 (hot) to line 2 (neutral) at the control. If absent, check the door switch and harness.
- With W1 called, check for 24V from W1 to C. If absent, check the transformer, thermostat and wiring. If 24V at transformer but about 13V at R and C, check the fuse.
- Check induced draft low stage: 120V between pin 3 and pin 4 of the 5-pin connector. Check high stage: 120V between pin 2 and pin 4.
- During preheat, check 120V between pin 1 and pin 5. If absent, check the low and high stage pressure switches, or replace the control.
- After ignitor warm-up, check 24V to the gas valve. It should be present for 7 seconds only if flame is proven.
- After proof of flame, check the air circulation blower comes on after the heat-on delay.
- For ECM motor faults, first test the motor with a Goodman UTT-01 UltraCheck-EZ tool. If the motor runs with the tool, the motor is good.
