Goodman Furnace: Electrostatic discharge precautions for the integrated control module

Updated · by Aurora Star Tech Inc.

Electrostatic discharge precautions for the integrated control module on a Goodman furnace: Equalize your body, the furnace and the control to the same electrostatic potential before touching the control or its wiring. This protects the integrated control module from damage on installed and uninstalled furnaces.

How to fix electrostatic discharge precautions for the integrated control module: step by step

  1. Disconnect all power to the furnace.
  2. Touch a clean, unpainted metal surface of the furnace near the control to discharge your body.
  3. Handle the control or wiring, and avoid moving or shuffling your feet or touching ungrounded objects. If you do, touch metal again before handling the control.
  4. Discharge yourself to ground before taking a new control out of its packaging, and return old or new controls to their containers before touching anything ungrounded.
Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.
