Goodman Furnace: Counterflow horizontal, left side down – drain setup
Counterflow horizontal, left side down - drain setup on a Goodman furnace: Drain trap and hose setup for a counterflow furnace laid on its left side. Needs at least 5.5 in clearance under the trap.
Applies to: Counterflow horizontal, left side down
How to fix counterflow horizontal, left side down - drain setup: step by step
- Keep at least 5.5 in clearance beneath the drain trap.
- Remove the factory drain trap and hose assemblies. Leave the 100 degree elbow clamped in the vent-drain elbow.
- Remove two 1 in plugs from the left cabinet side.
- Drain the collector box: move the left collector cap (bottom) to the right collector drain port.
- Clamp the radius end of hose #4 to the collector drain port with a silver clamp.
- Feed hose #2 through the front drain hole from outside the cabinet.
- Join hose #4 and hose #2 with a straight barbed coupling and two gold clamps.
- Drain the vent elbow: remove the rubber plug from the vent-drain elbow side port. Plug the unused drip leg port by pushing the removed rubber plug into the 100 degree elbow; a blunt tool such as a 3/16 in Allen wrench helps it seat.
- Clamp the radius end of hose #4 to the vent-drain elbow side port with a gold clamp.
- Insert the factory 1/2 in PVC pipe into hose #4 and secure with a gold clamp.
- Feed the non-grommet end of hose #5 through the back drain hole and insert a 100 degree elbow into it with a red clamp.
- Cut a 4 in straight section from hose #4, discard the radius end, and join it between the 100 degree elbow and the PVC pipe with red clamps.
- Connect the trap inlets to the hoses with silver clamps. The trap outlet must point to the original bottom of the furnace.
- Secure the trap with the two sheet metal screws supplied in the cabinet.
- Connect the field drain to the trap outlet per the field drain section.
