Goodman Furnace: Combustion and ventilation air
Combustion and ventilation air on a Goodman furnace: Most homes need outside air supplied to the furnace area through grilles or ducts open to the outdoors, an attic or a crawl space. Exhaust fans, dryers and fireplaces that pull air out of the house can cause backdrafting. If other gas appliances share the room, size their combustion air as well.
Applies to: All furnace installations
How to fix combustion and ventilation air: step by step
- Confirm the furnace room has adequate outside combustion and ventilation air.
- Check house depressurization with exhaust appliances running.
- Size air for other gas appliances in the same space per NFPA 54/ANSI Z223.1 or CAN/CSA B149.1-15.
