Updated · by Aurora Star Tech Inc.

Discharge the inverter capacitors before service on a Carrier mini-split: The big electrolytic capacitors on the outdoor board stay charged after power-off.

Homeowner with a ductless mini-split problem? Call (647) 657-2977 or book a service call — licensed technicians across Vaughan and the GTA.

Applies to: DLCM(R/H)B multi-zone outdoor units with DLFSHBH high wall indoor units (Midea, Carrier, Viessmann)

How to fix discharge the inverter capacitors before service: step by step

  1. Turn power off and lock out.
  2. Put a resistor of about 100 ohm 40 W (or a soldering iron plug) across the + and - capacitor terminals before touching the board.
Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.

If the unit shows an error code, look it up: Carrier Mini-Split codes
