Applies to: No burner operation

Common causes of unit fails to operate

  • No heat call from thermostat
  • Access panel not secured
  • Main disconnect open
  • Blown fuse or tripped breaker
  • Dirty or plugged filter, which causes the limit control to shut the unit off
  • Gas off at the meter
  • Manual main shut-off valve closed
  • Internal manual shut-off valve closed
  • Ignition system in lockout

How to fix unit fails to operate: step by step

  1. Confirm the thermostat is calling for heat.
  2. Confirm all access panels are secure.
  3. Confirm the main disconnect is closed.
  4. Check for a blown fuse or tripped breaker.
  5. Check and replace or clean the filter if dirty or plugged.
  6. Confirm gas is on at the meter.
  7. Open the manual main shut-off valve.
  8. Open the internal manual shut-off valve.
  9. If the ignition system is in lockout, reset by moving the thermostat off and back to heat. If it locks out again, inspect the unit for blockages.
Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.
