Goodman Furnace: Blower motor horsepower mismatch

Updated · by Aurora Star Tech Inc.

Blower motor horsepower mismatch on a Goodman furnace: The control checks the motor horsepower stored in its shared data set against the circulator blower motor that is actually installed. When they do not match, the control flags an error and will not run. Do not assume the motor is bad. A previous board swap with the wrong data set is just as likely. Switch off power and confirm both the motor and the data before changing anything, and never mix parts from another furnace.

Common causes of blower motor horsepower mismatch

  • Incorrect circulator blower motor in furnace
  • Incorrect shared data set in integrated control module
  • Wrong memory card used on a previous control replacement

How to fix blower motor horsepower mismatch: step by step

  1. Turn power off before repair
  2. Verify the circulator blower motor horsepower is the one specified for this furnace model, using the motor label and the parts list. Replace if necessary
  3. Verify the shared data set is correct for the model. Re-populate with the correct memory card if required
  4. Use the memory card for the specific model and insert it before turning power on
  5. Power up and let the data load, then power off and remove the card per the manual
  6. The error clears once shared data and motor horsepower match
  7. Handle the board with static precautions
Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.
