Tubing & brazing: Air Conditioner tips
Short, practical technician tips on tubing & brazing for air conditioner. Check each one against the manual for your exact model before acting.
Annual AC inspection checklist (10 steps)
Generic
Clear vegetation/erosion around condenser; clean both coils (self-rinsing cleaner indoors, water outdoors); disconnect drain, wet-vac, replace clogged tubing with clear; vacuum pan + algaecide tablets; inspect contactor points for burning; amp each strip-heat element vs spec; cycle time-delays and verify run time; measure evaporator split 16–20°F; inspect/mastic ducts; restore original settings.
Carry by the base pan
Generic
Never use coils/tubing as handles when moving a room AC chassis.
Never torch a drier out (Caution)
Generic
Heat drives moisture out of the desiccant back into the system — cut driers out with a tubing cutter. Driers work best cool.
Plastic blades, never metal, for fin cleaning
Generic
Metal pokes through tubing; pressure wash/detergent outdoors; straighten bent fins.
Vibration absorber installation
Generic
Install horizontal, perpendicular to the vibration direction, as close to the compressor as possible on both suction and discharge; anchor the far end; two absorbers at 90° if vibration is in two axes. Never stretch, compress or twist; don't overheat the braid when brazing.
