Refrigerant handling: Furnace tips

Updated · by Aurora Star Tech Inc.

Short, practical technician tips on refrigerant handling for furnace. Check each one against the manual for your exact model before acting.

Belt tension & alignment

Generic

Snug not tight; tightest belt that doesn't slip under full load, measured with a tension gauge; shafts parallel AND grooves in line (laser tools exist). Misalignment overloads the motor.

Concentric vent kit

Generic

One wall penetration for intake and exhaust on condensing appliances; keep PVC joints leak-tight, use a termination kit, protect condensate from freezing.

Water leak → electrical shorts

Generic

Leaking evap coil or humidifier above the furnace is a common cause of board failures.

Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.

General guidance for qualified technicians. The manufacturer's installation and service manual and local codes always take priority.
