Updated · by Aurora Star Tech Inc.

Short, practical technician tips on electrical for refrigeration. Check each one against the manual for your exact model before acting.

Wattmeter shows a bad start circuit

Generic

Analog wattmeter on a hermetic: needle swings right, pauses at combined start+run watts, then drops to run watts. If it never pauses at the higher value, the start winding or relay is open. Digital meters are too fast to show this.

Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.

General guidance for qualified technicians. The manufacturer's installation and service manual and local codes always take priority.
