How to fix operate the primary pressure relief valve (test): step by step
- Make sure the relief valve outlet is piped to a safe drain, away from scalding hazards.
- Shut off power to the boiler and wait for it to cool.
- Lift the relief valve lever. If water flows freely, release the lever and let the valve seat.
- Watch the discharge pipe to confirm the valve does not weep after draining. If it weeps, lift the lever again to clean the seat. If it still weeps, call a qualified service technician.
- If no water flows when the lever is fully lifted, the valve or discharge line may be blocked. Shut the boiler down and call a qualified service technician.
- If the valve seats properly, restore power and observe the boiler for five minutes.
