How to fix clean the condensate trap: step by step

  1. Remove the condensate drain hose from the bottom of the boiler.
  2. From below the boiler, remove the siphon cap retaining clip.
  3. Depress the two lateral hinges on the siphon cap (use a tool if needed) and remove the cap.
  4. Remove the cone and the ball.
  5. Clean each part. Do not use solvents.
  6. Confirm all parts are present. If any part is missing, do not operate the boiler. Replace the entire condensate trap assembly.
  7. Refill the trap with clean water and reassemble in reverse order, making sure the siphon cap and clip are secure.
  8. If a neutralizer is fitted, check it and top up the limestone chips if needed. Chips must be no smaller than 1/2 inch.
  9. Check condensate piping for sags or leaks and repair before restoring power.
  10. If the boiler has a condensate pump, confirm it runs properly.
Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.
