Midea Furnace: No light and no fan – furnace does not start
No light and no fan - furnace does not start on a Midea furnace: Furnace shows no LED activity and the blower does not run on a call for heat or fan.
Applies to: Midea BGH96M 96% AFUE two-stage gas furnaces (060B3A, 080B3A, 080C4A, 100C5A, 100D5A, 120D5A)
Common causes of no light and no fan - furnace does not start
- No 115 V power to the furnace
- Blower door switch open or door not closed
- Blown fuse
- Failed transformer
- Thermostat not sending a call
- Loose/wrong wiring
- Blower motor or fan drive board failure
- Control board failure
How to fix no light and no fan - furnace does not start: step by step
- WARNING: Discharge static before touching the control board; disconnect power before handling wiring.
- Check for 115 VAC between L1 and common at the furnace; if missing, check the supply at the connection box/disconnect.
- Make sure the blower access door is closed properly; with power off, press in the door switch and confirm 0 ohms. Replace the door switch if open.
- Check the board fuse; replace if blown. If the fuse is good, check the transformer secondary for 18-31 VAC and replace the transformer if it is dead.
- Check for 18-31 VAC between R and C; then check W/W1 to C (heating call) and G to C (fan call). No call = check thermostat settings or replace the thermostat.
- Check for loose wires or wrong connections and correct per the wiring diagram; leave the PARK terminal unused.
- If the board receives the call but nothing happens, check for 18-31 VAC between the speed tap (hi-heat/lo-heat/hi-cool/lo-cool) and COM and 115 VAC between CIRC-H and N. Replace the board if outputs are missing.
- If the motor gets signal and power but does not turn, measure resistance between motor leads U, V and W (should be 2-10 ohms). If in range, replace the fan drive board; if not, replace the motor.
