Gas Fireplace: Proflame (SIT DFC): pilot will not light or DFC locks out

Updated · by Aurora Star Tech Inc.

Proflame (SIT DFC): pilot will not light or DFC locks out on a gas fireplace: Fireplace with SIT Proflame electronic ignition (DFC board, 880/885/886 valve, GT remote): no pilot, or the DFC goes into lockout.

Applies to: Fireplaces using the SIT Proflame system (DFC 584, 880/885/886 valve, GT/GTM/GTMF receivers)

Common causes of proflame (sit dfc): pilot will not light or dfc locks out

  • Dead receiver/backup batteries or no AC/DC supply
  • Remote not communicating
  • Wrong inlet gas pressure
  • Loose or wrong wiring/harness
  • Spark electrode out of position, bad spark cable or pilot assembly
  • Pilot orifice, tube or flow adjustment wrong or blocked
  • Failed DFC board or gas valve

How to fix proflame (sit dfc): pilot will not light or dfc locks out: step by step

  1. First: confirm the power supply (AC/DC adapter or Fan Control Module) is present and the receiver/battery-pack batteries are fresh and in the right way.
  2. Confirm the transmitter and receiver are linked, and that static inlet pressure meets the appliance spec.
  3. If the DFC is in lockout, unlock it per the DFC instructions to retry ignition.
  4. No spark at the pilot hood: check spark electrode position, then replace the spark cable / electrode assembly or the pilot assembly; check wiring against the diagram; replace the DFC.
  5. Spark but no pilot: check wiring/harness; check pilot flow adjustment (if not sealed), pilot tube and orifice. Then unplug the harness from EV1 (red base) and measure EV1 to valve body during ignition: any voltage = replace valve, none = replace DFC.
  6. Spark keeps going with the pilot lit: replace the sense cable / sense electrode or pilot assembly, then the DFC.
  7. Power checks at the DFC: batteries CN1.1(+) to CN1.3(-) 4.4-6.4 VDC (each cell above 1.1 V); AC/DC adapter CN1.2(+) to CN1.3(-) 6.7-7.3 VDC, or 6-6.4 VDC from the FCM.
  8. If nothing helps, replace the wiring harnesses.
Safety: Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Turn off power and gas before servicing, never bypass a safety control, and always follow the manufacturer's manual for your exact model.
