Repair or replace? How we look at it in Maple homes
When a builder-grade furnace from the early 2000s needs a big repair, like an inducer motor, control board or heat exchanger, it’s usually time to talk about replacement. A newer two-stage furnace with a variable-speed blower runs quieter and keeps the upstairs and basement closer in temperature, which is the most common complaint we hear in two-storey Maple homes.
If the repair is small, like a flame sensor, igniter or capacitor, we just fix it. We’ll tell you plainly which side of that line you’re on.
Common problems we see
- Upstairs too warm in summer. Undersized returns on the second floor and a single-stage AC are a typical combination. Opening upstairs dampers helps; sometimes adding a return path makes the real difference.
- Humidifiers left switched off for years. Then dry air all winter. A new pad and a working solenoid usually bring them back.
- Condensate problems on high-efficiency furnaces. A plugged trap or drain line is one of the most common reasons a furnace shuts down in the first cold week.

What our customers say
Questions we get in Maple
How long does a furnace last?
Usually 15 to 20 years. Our post on how long furnaces and ACs last explains what shortens or extends that.
Should I replace the furnace and AC together?
Not always. If both are old, doing them together saves on labour and lets us match the indoor coil to the new AC. If one is much newer, it can make sense to keep it.
Do you service all brands?
Yes. We service and install most major brands, including Lennox, Carrier, Goodman, Amana, KeepRite, Rheem, Bosch and York.
