Newer subdivisions from the 2000s and 2010s: builder-original furnaces and ACs are reaching the age where replacement makes sense. Humidifiers and HRVs in these homes often haven’t been serviced since move-in.
Rural properties: some homes outside natural gas service heat with propane, oil or electricity. For those, a cold-climate heat pump can cut fuel use a lot, with the existing system kept as backup.
Well water on rural properties is often hard, which scales up water heaters, especially tankless units. Regular descaling or a softener makes a big difference.

Ductless heat pumps

Ductless systems work well for additions, garages turned into living space, and homes with electric baseboards. The photo below is one we installed in Stouffville, running through a snowfall. Mounting the outdoor unit on a stand keeps it above the snow so it can drain during defrost.

Tip: keep snow cleared from around a heat pump’s outdoor unit after big storms so air can flow through the coil.

 Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had a very positive experience with Ehsan from Aurora Star Tech. I hired him to perform maintenance and safety inspections on multiple gas furnaces and gas fireplaces, including some older and less common equipment.
Ehsan was thorough and spent considerable time on each unit rather than rushing through the job. He cleaned and tested the equipment, took operating measurements, and communicated with me frequently throughout the service. I especially appreciated that he explained what he was checking, shared his findings and readings with me, and showed me how some of the older fireplaces operate.
At the end of the visit, he completed an individual written maintenance and inspection report for each units, including key measurements and findings. I really value this kind of documentation for future maintenance.
Overall, I found Ehsan knowledgeable, patient, communicative and conscientious. He took the time to do the work properly and to help me understand the condition of the equipment. I would be happy to use Aurora Star Tech again and highly recommend Ehsan and his company.

We thought we had a gas leak, but Ehsan investigated and determined that there fortunately no gas leak in our case. Instead, we had a thermostat signal issue which he resolved.
