Ignition lockout auto-resets after 3 hours; to reset sooner, briefly cut power.

  1. Briefly cut 115 V to the furnace, or cut 24 V at SEC1/SEC2 (not at the thermostat terminals)

Clear stored error codes in the error recall menu

Lennox · Lennox EL296UHV, SL280UHV/SL280UHNV, SL297UHNV and ML180UHEK furnaces with 7-segment integrated control

The lowercase c in the error recall menu erases all stored codes; it must be confirmed while it flashes.

  1. Enter error recall by holding the button until E shows, then release.
  2. Scroll the recall menu until c shows (it changes about every 5 seconds).
  3. Press the button again while c is still flashing to delete all stored codes.
  4. Exit by holding the button until three bars show.

Clear an ignition lockout (E7) early

Midea · BGH96M060B3A, BGH96M080B3A, BGH96M080C4A, BGH96M100C5A, BGH96M100D5A, BGH96M120D5A

After two failed ignition attempts the control locks out with E7.

  1. Remove 115 V power or the thermostat call for 1-20 s.

Clear a lockout

Rheem · 96V and 96MDV series 2-stage communicating IFC

Resets the control after a lockout.

  2. Confirm the display flashes segments A and D as the pushbutton clear does.

Clear fault history with dipswitch S3-18

Rheem · 96V and 96MDV furnaces, legacy mode

Turning S3-18 off, on, off, on, off, on (or the reverse pattern) within less than 30 seconds clears the fault history buffer.

  1. Toggle S3-18 off/on/off/on/off/on, or on/off/on/off/on/off, three times within less than 30 seconds

Clear fault history with the pushbutton

Rheem · 96V and 96MDV communicating furnaces

The fault buffer can be cleared from the furnace control pushbutton while the Fault History Display menu is active.

  1. Open the Fault History Display (FL) menu.
  2. Hold the pushbutton for 5 seconds or more.
  3. Watch for segments A and D on the right-most displays to flash on and off for one second each, three times, which confirms the buffer is clear.

Clear the fault history

Rheem · (-)96VA040-115 (R96V / U96V) and (-)(-)96MDV040-115 two-stage variable-speed communicating furnaces

Two ways to wipe the six-fault buffer.

  1. With FL showing in the pushbutton menu, hold the button 5 seconds or more; the right display flashes its top and bottom bars three times.
  2. Or flip dipswitch S3-18 off/on three times (or on/off three times) within 30 seconds, then put it back to its original position.
  3. Faults older than 168 powered hours drop out by themselves.

Clearing lockouts

Rheem · (-)96VA040-115 (R96V / U96V) and (-)(-)96MDV040-115 two-stage variable-speed communicating furnaces

Soft lockouts (five-minute pressure switch, one-hour ignition/flame) and hard lockouts clear differently.

  1. Any lockout clears when the cause is fixed and power is cycled off and on.
  2. Soft lockout only: remove the heat call for more than 2 but less than 20 seconds.
  3. Hard lockout from a dead blower (61 four times in one call) clears if you cycle the heat call; a 93 hard lockout does not.
  4. During lockout, cooling and continuous fan still run but the display shows the lockout code instead of C or F.

Replay or clear the fault history on power-up (802P / 80MDP / R95P)

Rheem · Rheem/Ruud (-)802P / 80MDP 80% two-stage furnaces; R95P furnaces

After a power cycle the seven-segment display replays the three most recent faults under one week old, newest first. An old code does not mean the fault is active now.

  1. Switch furnace power off and back on
  2. Watch the display: up to three stored faults flash, newest first
  3. To wipe the history, flip the fault-clear DIP switch (SW8 on the 802P control, SW4 on R95P) six times in a row, alternating, within 30 seconds, then put it back where it was

Replay or clear the last five faults (RGPE/RGLE)

Rheem · Rheem/Ruud RGPE / RGLE modulating furnaces

On a power reset the dual display plays back the last five faults, newest first. Codes 82, 11, 45, 46 and 57 are not stored twice in a row.

  1. Cycle power to the furnace control
  2. Watch the display: the last five faults appear, newest first
  3. To clear, flip DIP switch SW3-2 four times in a row, alternating, within 30 seconds, then return it to its original position; or use CLEAR FAULTS in the thermostat menu

Reset a soft lockout (R95P)

Rheem · R95PA040, 060, 070 (1317MSA), R95PA085, 100 (1521MSA), R95PA115 (1524MSA); (-)95P series

Soft lockouts can be cleared by cycling the heat call or power. A 1-hour lockout also resets on its own after one hour; a hard lockout (code 93) needs a power reset; code 61 hard lockout can be reset by cycling the heat call.

  1. Cycle the heat call off for 2 to 20 seconds, or cycle power
  2. Code 93 hard lockout: cycle power

Reset the overtemperature safety switch

Rheem · All 96V and 96MDV series furnaces

The overtemperature switches sit in the burner compartment and trip when combustion air is inadequate. A tripped switch must be reset by hand, but only after the cause is cleared.

  1. Find the cause of the overtemperature trip, usually inadequate combustion air.
  2. Correct the cause.
  3. Press the manual reset on the switch in the burner compartment.

The control stays locked out until it is reset manually.

  1. Turn system power off, on, off, then on again within 30 seconds.
  2. Reset can be done at the unit power source or at the thermostat.
  3. If the sequence is not completed within 30 seconds, it will not reset.

Reset the control to factory defaults

Trane · S8V2, S8B1, S8X1, S8X2

Holding Menu and Option together at idle resets all menu values to factory defaults; the display flashes FD three times to confirm.

  1. Make sure the display is in idle (IdL)
  2. Hold Menu and Option together for 15 seconds, then release
  3. FD flashes three times
